The first full day of CinemaCon just ended in Vegas with a presentation from Sony Pictures hinting at a big 2026 and even a peak at what is coming in 2027. With everything from a superhero in Spider-man to many video game adaptations, the studio has it all upcoming and they gave the CinemaCon audience at first look at their slate.

Up first, Nate Bargatze and Mandy Moore were on hand to introduce a look at The Breadwinner. Moore called it a family movie that ‘everyone can go out and see this summer.’ The Breadwinner hits theaters on May 29th.

Followed by Sony Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman demanding longer theatrical windows, shorter ads, and cheaper. While he noted longer theatrical windows would not allow for all films to play, he asked for films to be given a chance to have an audience. He asked for theaters to ‘get off the ad crack’ and said audiences are sick and tired of seeing ads. Maybe he saw Courtney Howard’s tweet. He then went on to say it must be cheaper for more to see films in theaters. Rothman ended on it needs to be done together, between studios like Sony and theaters to work together to get audiences in the theaters.

The next film dove straight into Spider-Man: Brand New Day starring Tom Holland as the titular hero. Rothman introduced it as the biggest film they’ve ever made but like nothing they’ve ever made. Tom Holland sent a video message to introduce a clip of the film, which he calls the most emotional of the franchise. Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st.

Then came out Sony Pictures Releasing President Adam Bergerman to introduce a look at Insidious with a world premiere look at the trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further, written and directed by Jacob Chase. If you’re scared of the dentist, maybe don’t watch that first 30 seconds. Insidious: Out of the Further will drop in theaters on August 21st.

Bergerman then came out to discuss the Sony partnership with Crunchyroll. He called them the premiere partnership for anime in Hollywood.

Bergerman followed it up by bringing out Zach Cregger for a first look at the highly anticipated Resident Evil film from the new horror mastermind. He talked about how much of the game he played and how naturally cinematic the game is filled with dread and beautiful pacing. The writer/director spoke about how if you love the game, you’ll feel the influence all throughout. If you aren’t familiar, you’ll follow along effortlessly. We got a teaser trailer focused on Austin Abrams, as Cregger highlighted it’s strictly following him on a journey just like the game. The teaser was filled with familiar flair from the director but exactly what you want from a Resident Evil film. The installment hits theaters on September 18th.

Nicole Brown, the president of Tristar Pictures, came out next to talk about the importance of literary adaptations. We got a first look at Klara and the Sun, starring Jenna Ortega and directed by Taika Waititi. The adaptation based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 novel of the same name will drop in theaters on October 21st.

We got a video message from Elle and Dakota Fanning from the set of The Nightingale, which will be in theaters in 2027. The sisters are producing and starring, their first film together!

Following the success of Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki’s follow up, Grandgear will hit theaters on February 18, 2028. We got an early peak of what is in the work as production begins. A brief mention of The Legend of Zelda film, which just wrapped production, but no look or anything at the film. A rated-R animated film adaptation of Bloodborne is on its way with Sony’s partnership with Playstation. Justin Lin was on hand to discuss adapting Helldivers with Jason Momoa starring.

Aaron Sorkin came out to deliver the first trailer for The Social Reckoning, a companion film to his Oscar winning work on The Social Network. The film is based on true events of a whistleblower at Facebook. Sorkin, who wrote and directed the sequel, called it more of a thriller versus a drama. The film looks and sounds similar his work on The Newsroom, with his sharp, liberal dialogue. Notes of that iconic Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score are featured at the end of the trailer filled with Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Wunmi Mosaku and led by Academy Award Winner Mikey Madison. The Social Reckoning will be in theaters October 9th.

The Sony presentation transitioned to their strong animation department. We got a title reveal for a new original film, Buds, and a look at a logo for the film. Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson came out next to introduce a look at the final chapter of the Spider-Verse with a first look at Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The highly anticipated finale hits theaters June 18, 2027.

The presentation ended on a new look at the latest (and final?) Jumanji installment with Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart on hand. The film will be in theaters exclusively on December 25th.
