The Matrix is considered by most as one of the greatest films of all time. The world building from the mind of the Wachowski sisters is unreal and continues to inspire films today. The film pushed the boundaries of fight choreography, visual effects, and technology being used in the medium of film and now the experimental media and tech company, Cosm, is bringing the film back to a big screen in a new, immersive format.
Cosm, which presently has a location in Los Angeles and Dallas, will host The Matrix in Shared Reality in June and July as they are partnering with Warner Brothers and Little Cinema. The film screens as normal, but the audience will also be surrounded by an 87 foot diameter LED dome, which will display immersive elements inspired by the film. As one of the first people outside of the team that put this together to view the shared reality experience, you truly feel immersed in the Matrix yourself.
“Having been a part of The Matrix big screen experience since the first film completely transported audiences with its groundbreaking filmmaking technology and truly immersive storytelling, I can say on behalf of all of us at Warner Brothers that we wouldn’t miss this opportunity to partner with Cosm and Little Cinema to deliver yet another first to moviegoers,” said Warners President of Global Distribution Jeff Goldstein. Little Cinema founder Jay Rinsky commented that the Shared Reality screening has created “an experience where the film remains the hero, and audiences are invited to question their own sense of what is real in the world surrounding it.”
It’s easy to tell the team that brought this to life not only loves the theatrical experience but was so passionate about The Matrix itself. This is not a gimmicky event rushed together, this is something years in the making and the work shows. You can tell the team behind the Shared Reality experience loves movies as every single detail is so thoughtful, immersive, and never takes away from the film itself. The Matrix is one of my personal all time favorites and I have high standards for any viewing experience of it, this exceeded all standards and is one of my favorite watches of a film I’ve seen many, many times. If you’re going to check it out, highly recommend not watching clips and experiencing it yourself, but if you want a peak.
The Matrix Shared Reality is a must-experience for not just any film fan but anyone looking for an immersive, unique experience this summer. Special screenings will offer a tasting menu, with Really Good Noodles and a steak timed to Cypher describing his own steak. You can have Red Pill or Blue Pill cocktail while Carrie-Anne Moss, Keanu Reeves, and Laurence Fishburne blow your mind. The experience opens on June 6th in both Cosm locations.
