Wrapping up day three at CinemaCon, Amazon/MGM took the stage for their second presentation as a joint studio.
Opening, they had Jon Batiste playing music for us ahead of their upcoming release of a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. This all led to the first peak of The Thomas Crown Affair from Academy Award Winner Michael B. Jordan who directed and stars alongside Adria Arjona and Kenneth Branagh. The film looks stylistically very impressive and unique as Jordan brings a new flair to the classic story. Jordan was on hand to introduce the film, which he so enthusiastically embraced the music from Batiste and the response to the ‘Academy Award Winner’ title the crowd responded to. The highly anticipated remake drops in theaters next March.
Following the first look at a new film, Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord and Chris Miller came on stage to thank the theater exhibitors for their support of the massive hit, Project Hail Mary, which CinemaCon attendees got a first look at last year.
Up next, we had Camila Mendes, Nicholas Galitzine and Travis Knight to introduce a first look at a scene and new trailer for their He-Man film, Masters of the Universe. The clip we saw allowed Mendes to step into the hero role rescuing a confused and disoriented Galitzine before we received a full trailer showing Galitzine become the superhero worthy of the massive frame he builds. Masters of the Universe was full of color (!!) and some interesting camerawork throughout the many fight sequences. It appears worthy of the campiness and seriousness the character is associated with. The film will release into theaters on June 5th.
Jason Statham sent a video message talking about how audiences have demanded a sequel to The Beekeeper and it’s full of stunts, wild scenes and the unexpected. Following his intro, CinemaCon was treated to an exclusive sneak peek at the sequel. The sequel is filled to the brim with bullets and co-stars Pom Klementieff, Jeremy Irons, and Emmy Raver-Lampman. The film hits theaters in January 2027.
Up next, we were confirmed to not be receiving James Bond news as the studio is committed to casting with care and dedication to the integrity of the iconic role. Hugh Jackman and some of the other cast members of The Sheep Detectives hit the stage next to discuss how films like this don’t get theatrical release anymore and it’s so important to support comedies in theaters. We got a brand new trailer and extended look at the film. The Sheep Detectives will be in theaters on May 8th.
We got a debut trailer for A Colt is My Passport, a remake of the 1967 Takashi Nomura classic starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Tim Roth, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton, and Burn Gorman. The film retains the visual flair of the original while modernizing for audiences unfamiliar it’s a remake. The pacing and editing are so sharp with some really great action scenes in the trailer. No release date was confirmed.
A debut trailer for David Leitch’s How to Rob a Bank followed with the director and Pete Davidson on hand to discuss the film about bank robbers who carry out dangerous heists and post them on social media. The director called the group modern day Robin Hoods. In addition to Davidson, the film stars Nicholas Hoult, Anna Sawai, Zoë Kravitz, Rhenzy Feliz, John C. Reilly, and Christian Slater. Leitch says he wanted to capture the insane world of stunts with the every day man. The film releases on September 4th.
Mahershala Ali and director Bassam Tariq came out to introduce a new look at Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. Ali described the film as something he’s always wanted to make and what challenged him as a former athlete to be more physical. Coming this fall, the film looks full of twists and uncompromising. The use of color and the texture of the film is incredible.
An adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity was up next. Last year, we got a sneak peak as the film was in production, but the film, releasing this October, we got a full trailer showcasing some insane turns from what will surely be an unpredictable ride starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.
Up next, we got an incredible intro to Spaceballs 2, which they played up wanting every format for the film and to be in every theater possible and wanting VistaVision despite not knowing what it is. Josh Greenbaum came out to hype up the film and why he wanted to make a sequel to the masterpiece of the original with the cast joining him, Bill Pullman, Lewis Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Josh Gad and Rick Moranis. The film is officially titled Spaceballs: The New One and it will hit theaters on April 23, 2027.
Chad Stahelski’s Highlander has been such a highly anticipated title and Henry Cavill sent a video message as the film is in the middle of production in Scotland currently. A sizzle reel with the iconic action director speaking about why the film needed to be remade and with the incredible cast talking about the massive scale and Queen of it all. In true Stahelski fashion, a huge club scene, great lighting and impeccable actions design of every inch on the reel of footage we saw. While maybe known for gun work, the action icon will be stepping up with impeccable sword play. There really can only be one and maybe it’s Stahelski.
Peter Farrelly and the cast of I Play Rocky were up next to introduce the meta film about the making of the original Rocky. We got a first look at the trailer leading up to the making of the iconic film. It’s an interesting balance of tone and will be in theaters this fall.
