The first trailer for Cannes award winner Emila Perez dropped this morning. Directed by Jacques Audiard and based on his opera, Libretto, Emilia Perez follows four remarkable women in Mexico pursuing happiness through an odyssey of bold visuals mixed with song and dance. Leading the story is the titular Emilia, a fearless cartel leader who enlists Rita, an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.
Described as “an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations, Audiard brings together an incredible group of actresses with Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz who all picked up Best Actress at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. This crime musical stands as a metaphor for accepting differences in the modern world.
Emilia Perez will play in select theaters starting November 1st. The film hits Netflix on November 13th.
