It’s almost officially fall and that means it’s time for an iced Pumpkin Spice Latte, snag a Sweater Weather candle, and plan your award season viewing! From Priscilla to Saltburn to The Zone of Interest to Maestro, there really is something for everyone (and two for the Jacob Elordi girlies!). 

It Lives Inside (Dir. Bishal Dutta)

Kicking off Spooky Season, It Lives Inside follows two high school students and a mythological demon spirit. The film stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, Gage Marsh, Beatrice Kitsos, and Betty Gabriel. It Lives Inside was written and directed by Bishal Dutta. The Neon film will release in theaters on September 22nd.  

Fair Play (Dir. Chloe Domont)

In Chloe Domont’s feature directorial debut, Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich star as a couple whose relationship starts to unravel following an unexpected promotion at a cutthroat hedge fund firm. Fair Play premiered at Sundance earlier this year to rave reviews. The film will release in select theaters on September 29th and be available to stream on Netflix on October 13th.

The Royal Hotel (Dir. Kitty Green)

Kitty Green is back partnering with Julia Garner in The Royal Hotel. The film, which is directed and co-written by Green, stars Garner and Jessica Henwick as American best friends backpacking through Australia. The film co-stars Toby Wallace, Hugo Weaving, Ursula Yovich, Daniel Henshall, James Frecheville, and Herbert Nordrum. The Royal Hotel will be released in theaters on October 6th

Foe (Dir. Garth Davis)

Academy Award Nominees Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan star in the film Foe, adapted from the novel of the same name written by Iain Reid. The story centers around a couple, Junior and Henrietta, who live a quiet, isolated life. Their peaceful existence is disrupted when a stranger named Terrance arrives. Foe, directed by Garth Davis and co-written by Davis and Reid, will be exclusively in theaters on October 6th

Anatomy of a Fall (Dir. Justine Triet)

Palme d’Or Winner Anatomy of a Fall is a legal thriller, written by Justine Triet and Arthur Harari, and directed by Triet. The film features three spoken languages consisting of French, German, and English. Sandra Hüller stars alongside Swann Arlaud, Milo Machado Graner, Antoine Reinartz, and more. Anatomy of a Fall will be released in LA and NY on October 13th

Killers of the Flower Moon (Dir. Martin Scorsese)

Martin Scorsese is back with Killers of the Flower Moon. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, with Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser in supporting roles. The film follows a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, committed after oil was discovered on tribal land. Killers of the Flower Moon will have a wide release on October 20th in theatres. 

The Killer (Dir. David Fincher)

A new neo-noir thriller from David Fincher? Sign us up! The Killer, based on the French graphic novel series of the same name, stars Michael Fassbender, Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, Kerry O’Malley, Sala Baker, Sophie Charlotte, and Tilda Swinton. Its plot follows the titular assassin who gets embroiled in an international manhunt after a hit goes wrong. The film will have a limited theatrical release on October 27thbefore streaming on Netflix on November 10th.

Priscilla (Dir. Sofia Coppola)

The latest Sofia Coppola A24 film is another exploration of girlhood into womanhood, but this time centering around Priscilla Presley. Priscilla, which will be in theaters on November 3rd, stars Cailee Spaeny in the titular role and Jacob Elordi as the iconic singer. Coppola wrote the film based on the memoir by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon. The film’s score was composed by Phoenix, which is fronted by Coppola’s husband, Thomas Mars.

Rustin (Dir. George C. Wolfe)

Colman Domingo leads Rustin alongside an all-star cast, including Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Aml Ameen, CCH Pounder, Michael Potts, Jeffrey Wright, and Audra McDonald. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe, from a screenplay by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black and produced by Barack and Michelle Obama. Rustin is based on the true story of gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, who helped Martin Luther King Jr. and others organize the 1963 March on Washington. The film will have a limited theatrical release on November 3rd before streaming on Netflix on November 17th

May December (Dir. Todd Haynes)

One of the greatest actress-director pairings reunites for a new film! May December reteams Julianne Moore with director Todd Haynes. The film also stars Natalie Portman and Charles Melton. The film is set twenty years after a notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple with a large age gap buckles under the pressure when an actress arrives to do research for a film about their past. May December will release in select theaters on November 17th and be available to stream on Netflix on December 1st

Maestro (Dir. Bradley Cooper)

Bradley Cooper is back in the director’s chair with Maestro! The Netflix film stars Carey Muligan, Cooper, Maya Hawke, Matt Bomer and Sarah Silverman in a love story that follows the lifelong relationship between composer Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) and actress Felicia Montealegre (Mulligan). The film was co-written by Cooper and Josh Singer and produced by Cooper, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and more. The film will hit select theaters on November 22nd and be released on Netflix on December 20th

Saltburn (Dir. Emerald Fennell)

Academy Award Winner Emerald Fennell is back after her debut film in 2020. Saltburn has an all-star cast featuring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan. The film follows Oliver Quick (Keoghan) struggling to find his place Oxford University and then as he finds himself drawn into the world of the enchanting and aristocratic Felix Catton (Elordi). Felix invites Oliver to Saltburn, his family’s massive estate, for a summer never to be forgotten. Saltburn will be exclusively in theaters on November 24th; a Thanksgiving to remember. 

The Bikeriders (Dir. Jeff Nichols)

Jeff Nichols had been dreaming of making a biker film for years and he’s finally done it! The Bikeriders tells a fictional story inspired by the 1967 photo-book of the same name by Danny Lyon. The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, and Norman Reedus. The Bikeriders will be released in theaters on December 1st.

Poor Things (Dir. Yorgos Lanthimos)

Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos reteam for Poor Things, a fantasy black comedy. The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael. Poor Things follows a young Victorian woman who, after being crudely resurrected by a scientist following her suicide, runs off with a man to embark on an odyssey of self-discovery and sexual liberation. The film will be released in theaters on December 8th

The Zone of Interest (Dir. Jonathan Glazer)

It’s been ten years since Jonathan Glazer’s last film, Under the Skin. The writer/directed dedicated two years to reading extensively in order to prepare for his next film. The Zone of Interest, loosely based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Martin Amis, is a co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Poland. The film centers on Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife as they strive to build a dream life next to the camp. Glazer collaborated with the Auschwitz Museum and other organizations and obtained special permission to access the archives. The film will be released in theaters on December 8th

All of Us Strangers (Dir. Andrew Haigh)

All of Us Strangers is written and directed by Andrew Haigh. The film is loosely based on the novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada. All of Us Strangers has an incredible cast, featuring Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Jamie Bell, and Claire Foy. The film was met with amazing reviews following its worldwide premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. All of Us Strangers will be released on December 22nd

Ferrari (Dir. Michael Mann)

The best Christmas gift of all, a new Michael Mann film! Ferrari stars Adam Driver as ex-racer Enzo Ferrari in the summer of 1957 as the Mille Miglia, a thousand-mile race across Italy, pushes his drivers to the edge. Ferrari also stars Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gordon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey. The Neon film will release in theaters on Christmas Day. 

Perfect Days (Dir. Wim Wenders)

Wim Wenders, baby! Perfect Days combines four short stories and was shot in Tokyo over 17 days. The film was officially selected as the Japanese entry for International Feature for the 2024 Oscar Ceremony. Koji Yakusho won Cannes’ Best Actor honor for his performance in the film. The film also took home the Ecumenical Jury Prize from Cannes. The American release date is pending to be confirmed. 

Woman of the Hour (Dir. Anna Kendrick)

Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, is based on the life of serial killer Rodney Alcala, who in the 70’s appeared on the television show The Dating Game in the midst of his murder spree. The film revolves around the events of the game show and stars Kendrick as contestant Cheryl Bradshaw. In 1978, serial killer Rodney Alcala appeared on The Dating Game and won a date with bachelorette Bradshaw. The film currently does not have a release date confirmed for the United States, but was recently acquired by Netflix.

Origin (Dir. Ava DuVernay)

The latest film from Ava DuVernay is based upon the nonfiction book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. It stars Aunjanue Ellis as Wilkerson, alongside Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Audra McDonald, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nick Offerman and Blair Underwood. Origin follows Wilkerson as she deals with personal tragedy and sets herself on a path of discovery as she writes a book. The film does not currently have a release date, but will be released by Neon in 2023.
