In honor of Barbie, we wanted to take a look back at Margot Robbie’s best films from her career so far. Robbie has delivered incredible performances over the years since her a star is born performance in a Martin Scorsese picture. Here are just some of our favorite films with the soon to be Barbie

The Legend of Tarzan (2016) Dir. David Yates

Robbie brings a vibrant energy and a strong presence to her portrayal of Jane in this adaptation of Tarzan. While Robbie’s Jane doesn’t make friends with gorillas or swing from vines, she imbues the character with intelligence, courage, and a fierce determination to protect the jungle. Robbie’s performance captures Jane’s unwavering loyalty to Tarzan, while also portraying her as a capable and resourceful individual who can hold her own in challenging situations. (Cannot imagine a movie with Robbie and Alexander Skarsgård flopping now…)

About Time (2013) Dir. Richard Curtis

Is this Robbie’s only rom-com in her filmography? In About Time, Robbie plays Charlotte, a friend of Tim’s (Domhnall Gleeson) sister whom he has a crush on. She radiates both charm and charisma in her handful of scenes. While the role is a bit on the smaller side, About Time is one of the best rom-coms (if you can call it a comedy….) in well almost over a decade! The film expertly blends romance and sci-fi to deliver one of the best explorations of time, love, and regret throughout one’s life.

The Big Short (2015) Dir. Adam MckAy

Is she barely in this film? Yes. Does she just play herself? Yes. But, I will always remember Robbie saying “When you hear subprime, think shit.” Robbie’s appearance is part of a handful of celebrity cameos used to explain complex financial concepts to the audience in a way Adam McKay should have only done in this film.

Z for Zachariah (2015) Dir. Craig Zobel

Released in 2015 and directed by Craig Zobel, the movie is a post-apocalyptic drama that explores themes of survival, isolation, and human connection.Robbie’s performance in the film is captivating as she effectively conveys her character’s mix of vulnerability and strength. Through subtle gestures, facial expressions, and nuanced delivery of dialogue, she brings depth and authenticity to her character.

I, Tonya (2017) Dir. Craig Gillespie

Robbie’s portrayal of Tonya Harding is nothing short of extraordinary. She fearlessly dives into the complexities of the character, capturing both Tonya’s fierce determination and the vulnerability that lies beneath her tough exterior. Robbie effortlessly embodies the essence of Harding, immersing herself in the role and delivering a captivating and nuanced performance.

Birds of Prey (2020) Dir. Cathy Yan

Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn is both captivating and exhilarating. She effortlessly embodies the character’s unique blend of unpredictability, wit, and vulnerability, bringing a new dimension to Harley’s complex personality. Robbie’s performance captures Harley’s manic energy, ensuring that every scene she appears in is infused with her trademark charm and quirkiness. She also delves into the character’s vulnerabilities, allowing the audience to empathize with her struggles and emotional journey.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) Dir. Martin Scorsese

Robbie’s performance in the Martin Scorsese directed picture is widely regarded as a breakthrough moment in her career. Robbie portrays Naomi Lapaglia, the captivating and fiery wife of Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Robbie’s portrayal of Naomi is magnetic, exuding confidence, sensuality, and a formidable presence that commands attention whenever she appears on screen.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) Dir. Quentin Tarantino

In the Quentin Tarantino film, Robbie brings Sharon Tate to life with grace, charm, and a sense of innocence. Robbie’s performance beautifully captures the spirit of Tate, showcasing her optimism, talent, and love for her craft. Despite limited dialogue, Robbie expertly conveys Tate’s magnetic presence and her genuine joy for life, leaving a lasting impression on both the characters within the film and the audience. Robbie’s portrayal of Sharon Tate is marked by a delicate balance of vulnerability and strength. She embodies Tate’s warmth and infectious energy, breathing life into her character and showcasing her as a symbol of hope amidst the darker undertones of the story. Through subtle gestures and expressions, Robbie communicates Tate’s love for acting, her connection with the people around her, and her aspirations for a bright future.

Babylon (2022) Dir. Damien Chazelle

In Damien Chazelle’s tribute to debaucherous old Hollywood, Robbie plays Nellie LaRoy at almost level 100 the entire film. From snake fighting to crying on cue, she really does it all. Throughout the film’s three hour plus runtime, Robbie brings Nellie to life in a way no one else could. The performance is loud and overwhelming, but the moments where she’s soft and subtle is when Robbie truly shines. (Personally, I think this is her best performance to date!)
